CLIENT: San Diego Regional Taskforce on Homelessness
DESIGN CHALLENGE: Once each year, hundreds of volunteers span San Diego County to locate and count those neighbors living without permanent shelter. This data is a crucial component of RTFH’s ability to reduce and end homelessness in San Diego, and is highly anticipated by local cities within the county. However, the sheer volume of facts and figures is overwhelming to analyze, and RTFH leaders were concerned that the actual people impacted by homelessness were getting lost in the rows and columns of basic spreadsheets.
The challenge was to develop and design a format that captured the statistical data from multiple sources while conveying a human aspect across 17 different fact sheet report summaries broken down by categories and cities across the county. It was detailed work completed in a compressed amount of time with a firm deadline. The payoff came with this note from the client: “Mayor Gloria loved your design of the fact sheets! His team is the first to see them. He said it was clearly laid out and easy to read, and the best one he’s seen in the 20 years of looking at this data.”
ELEMENTS: Factsheets printed and available online with a corresponding PowerPoint Presentation.

PRESENTATION: RTFH team members introduced the countywide summary reports at a series of meetings with city leaders and elected officials with this corresponding PowerPoint presentation.
